Why on earth would I have a section in the rules on how to pick up your cards? Because most people sort Take the far stack, put it on the near stack, and then deal. If you deal three at a time, then you have to shuffle five times. In the case of Pinochle and its 48-card deck, three shuffles (and a cut) will provide sufficient randomization if you deal the cards one at a time. However, mathematicians don’t necessarily play card games. This is the minimum number of shuffles required to randomize a standard 52-card deck. Mathematicians will tell you that “properly shuffled” means shuffling seven times.
